What Runs Pittsburgh?

Join the ranks of the Penguins, Pirates and Steelers in the City of Champions. Hang your medal proudly on Pittsburgh’s trophy shelf, which runs deep with five Stanley Cups, five Commissioner Trophies and six Vince Lombardi Trophies.

Pittsburgh was once known as the industrial powerhouse of America but in the 1980’s, when the steel industry collapsed, workers left town in flocks. Thanks to the foresight of the city and local institutions, such as Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh’s population is now growing larger and younger. Facebook, Uber, Amazon and Google all have offices in Pittsburgh, as well as 1,600 other tech companies.

Pittsburgh will keep you entertained long after the finish line. Pittsburgh’s downtown Cultural District is home to hundreds of retail shops and restaurants as well as seven world-class theaters. There are museums, music, dance, art, theater, opera, ballet, film and more, walkable from Downtown.

It is still a beautiful day in the neighborhood. As you travel throughout the neighborhoods, that line the course of P3R’s races, it won’t take long to realize what makes Pittsburgh great. It’s the people.

P3R is a nonprofit organization that is passionate about promoting the love of running and enhancing community access to health & fitness education and activities. Best known for organizing the acclaimed annual DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon, P3R also runs a variety of other high-quality races, events, and health & fitness programs throughout the Pittsburgh region. While many of P3R’s races attract some of the nation’s high-profile professional athletes, they also offer activities for all ages and ability levels. The only criterion for participation is a desire to be happy, healthy and active.

There are hundreds of accolades about Pittsburgh but don’t just take our word for it, come see for yourself.
