After they cross the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Mile finish line, these runners also will celebrate their birthdays - and why you should MOVE on your birthday, too.

11.03.22

This year nearly a dozen EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler participants will be celebrating their birthday by conquering 10 miles of the “most Pittsburgh race ever.” Before they blow out candles and eat birthday cake, they will join more than 4,000 others for the 10th anniversary race that will feature Pittsburgh-themed miles, bands and cheer groups to keep participants motivated all the way to the finish line.

“I absolutely love this race and mostly because of the course,” said Natalie Eaton, who will be running this year on her birthday. “It’s just challenging enough, but it also allows you to open up and run fast at times! The addition of themed miles has made this even better than when it first started.”

Moving on your birthday - no matter what distance or pace you choose - is a great way to celebrate your big day. Here are five reasons why.

It’s a great way to kick off your day.

“I almost always run on my birthday, except if it’s a rest day! After running I will gather at a local watering hole with running friends and then meet up with family later. Running helps to start the day off on the right foot!” - Natalie Eaton

It’s a gift to yourself.

“I started running the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler last year on my birthday because I felt like the best gift that I could give myself was optimal health and fitness!” - Jenica Rangos

You’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.

“At the beginning of the year, I set a goal to participate in all of the #RunwithP3R challenge events. I had done so virtually in 2020 but wanted to do them in person this year. With the EQT Pittsburgh 10 miler being the last event, I knew I wanted to run it and it happened to fall on my 52nd birthday.” - Eric Evans

It’s good motivation.

Your birthday is a great time to set new fitness goals. You don’t have to run on your actual birthday, either. You can choose to run a new distance to celebrate reaching a milestone birthday or finally commit to one of your bucket list races.

It’s an opportunity to do something that you love.

“This year I decided not to pace the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler like I have been for quite a few years and race it instead because it’s my birthday! I love running and why not race on my day! I have either run this race or paced it every year except one, and only because I ran the New York City Marathon in 2016 on my birthday and had to miss it.” - Natalie Eaton
