The Top 10 Things I LOVE about the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler

Every runner I know has a favorite race and a story to go along with it and I am no exception. My favorite race is the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. My love of this race started an entire year before I even ran it. I graduated from college in 2010 and soon after got a desk job and adopted a more sedentary lifestyle than I had ever had. By 2014 I had gained 20 pounds and was suffering both physically and mentally. I knew something needed to change, but I wasn’t sure where to start.

While sitting on my couch scrolling through Facebook and trying to figure out how to become more active, I saw friends posting about their recent finish of the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. That was the day I decided I would start running, and my big goal was to one day run 10 miles.

Those early runs consisted of more walking than running. It was not pretty or easy, but by the end of the year I hit my goal and ran 10 miles. After that run, I immediately signed up for my first race which was the 2015 Pittsburgh Half Marathon in May, then I went on to run the 10 Miler in November.

Running gave me my life back and so much more, and it was the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler that inspired it all.

If you still need a reason to join the fun on Sunday, November 6, I also made a list!

The Top 10 Things I Love about the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler

#10

A 10 mile race! There are not many 10 milers out there, and it’s a nice distance, especially if you want to take on 13.1 in the spring. It’s long enough to be a challenge, but the training time is manageable for most schedules.

#9

The diverse field of participants. This event attracts runners of all abilities from first-time racers, seasoned runners, and even the elites! As racing returns to the city, there will be a field of local elites competing for a prize purse. I can’t wait to see who our champYINZ are!

#8

Have you ever woke up on race morning and wished you had one more hour of sleep? If so, you are in luck! The clocks roll back an hour for Daylight Saving on race morning.

#7

The swag. Every year I look forward to the cool finisher medal and of course the stylish quarter-zip long sleeve shirt which I will be rocking on many runs this fall.

#6

Don't want to take on the full 10 miles? We got yinz covered. This year to celebrate the 10th anniversary, the EQT Pitsburgh 10 Miler now has a 10k option!

#5

The weather. Running in the fall is the best! After a summer of steamy runs, I am ready for the crisp air and lower humidity. This is PR weather!

#4

The food. Along the course you will have an opportunity to celebrate some of our city’s most famous cuisine. There will be french fries, cookies, pierogies and pickles! My personal favorite is the Eat’n Park Smiley cookie at the finish.

#3

It’s one of the largest live races in Pittsburgh! The energy at this race is always electrifying!

#2

The course, of course! Enjoy a scenic tour of our beautiful city. The highlights include running across rivers and bridges and through many historic neighborhoods. The course ends flat and fast down Liberty Avenue into dahntahn!

#1

It’s the most Pittsburgh race ever! Each mile will be celebrating our city in a different way. From our parking chairs and Mister Rogers to sports teams, pickles, and so much more!

This isn’t just another race. This is the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler!
