PITTSBURGH (October 30, 2019)

Featuring pickles, pierogies and a cookie table, this year’s Pittsburgh-themed EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler will welcome some of America’s fastest athletes including Pittsburgh-native Elaina Tabb and defending champion and event record holder Martin Hehir. The race, scheduled for Nov. 2, will feature a $25,000 guaranteed prize purse, including $5,000 for each race champion. 

Tabb, who was a four-time all-state performer for Hampton High School in Allison Park, Pa., has represented the United States in three IAAF World Championships and competes professionally for the Boston Athletic Association. She will face tough competition from Bria Wetsch (10-mile personal best of 54:14), Nicole Jefferson (half-marathon personal best of 1:12:31) and Lexi Zeis (10-mile personal best of 54:32). Also joining the women’s field is Maegan Krifchin, the 12th fastest American women all-time in the half marathon (1:09:51). 

“The EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler is a race that I've always wanted to do, and I was very excited when it finally fit into my racing and training schedule this year,” Tabb said. “It's always an honor to race in my city with my family cheering me on.”

In last year’s race, Hehir not only beat a field of competitive runners to earn top spot but also finished in 46 minutes, 48 seconds, breaking the event record by two seconds. Joining him in this year’s event is Biya Simbassa, who has a 10-mile personal best of 46:57 and U.S. Army teammates Augustus Maiyo (10-mile personal best of 47:05) and Elkanah Kibet (10-mile personal best of 47:15).  
“I’m extremely excited to come back to Pittsburgh, because defending the title means a lot to me,” Hehir said. “Training has been great, and I’ll be ready for anybody on the starting line.”

Prior to the race, Tabb and Hehir will meet with local students at Upper St. Clair High School and The Ellis School to share their experiences running and competing on a professional level. 

Almost 5,000 participants from 34 states are expected to toe the start line at this year’s EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler. This year’s Pittsburgh-themed race will take runners through 10 miles of Pittsburgh’s history, fandom, and quirkiest traditions. Click here for more information on this year’s Pittsburgh-themed miles.
